When Paddy immigrated from South Africa 10 years ago, he wanted to maintain relationships with family and friends. He tried using email and Dropbox but found those methods lacking. With a background in IT, Paddy decided to set up a simple FTP site with a chatbox--which was immediately better for him. This also prompted his friends and family to request he set up FTP sites for them, and this was the start of Frega.
From a tool to communicate with friends and family, Frega has evolved into a flourishing company. With 400% growth in the number of hubs over the past 18 months, that growth is set to continue. A key part of growth will be driven by innovation, including developing a new user interface that will appear as a browser.
Frega isn’t just a communication tool; it's also embedded in financial services, allowing customers to handle money, e-commerce, and knowledge. "Basically, you can manage everything from one location," Paddy explains.
Frega has grown dramatically in the last 10 years. "I had no idea that I was developing a single communication system. It wasn't even originally intended to be a business,” Paddy comments. “We now have 29 applications in the library and 11,700 hubs in 182 countries, and we've developed a really sophisticated unified communications solution. And we've recently started partnering with Zoom.”
The Frega team conducted extensive research and examined various options before making their first claim. They approached a combination of different advisors but were dissatisfied with methods they considered outdated.
"It was surprising to us that so many advisors required numerous email conversations and interviews to make a claim. You'd expect their techniques to be as innovative as the businesses they work with," says Paddy.

Frega also utilised R&D advance funding for its latest claim, which gives companies access to up to 80% of their future credits, up to 9 months before year-end.
